Kawar Energy Group and CH2M HILL today announced the launch of a United States Trade Development Agency (USTDA)-funded feasibility study to explore opportunities to develop utility-scale solar power generation in Jordan.
Kawar Energy, a Jordanian developer of clean energy resources, has selected CH2M HILL, a global leader in consulting, design, design-build, operations, and program management, to perform a feasibility study for its proposed Shams Ma’an Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant. The project aims to develop more than 100MW of PV/CPV to meet the Jordanian renewable energy target for power generation. The clear Jordanian skies, coupled with an increasing demand for electricity and increasingly competitive photovoltaic prices offer a tremendous long-term opportunity both for Kawar Energy and the Government of Jordan. The project will provide a well defined implementation plan for Kawar, including a technology assessment, project structuring analysis, and consideration of social and economic benefits.
Upon completion, the Shams Ma’an plant will provide a significant supply of clean peak energy allowing for optimization of investments in new generation capacity (today Jordan imports 96 percent of its energy), contribution to local and national economic development, and significant environmental benefits.
